Trump’s Lead Begins to Slip

Finally, some encouraging news:

Donald Trump’s lead among Republicans dropped six points in the days leading up to Monday’s Iowa caucuses, the latest IBD/TIPP Poll shows.

Support for Trump fell to 31% among registered Republicans and Republican leaners, down from 34% in the prior IBD/TIPP Poll. Meanwhile, Ted Cruz saw his support climb three points to 21%, the highest number that Cruz has achieved in five months of polling.

This comes after Trump has spent several days launching sharp attacks at Cruz, challenging his eligibility to serve as president, and attacking his character.

As for the delusional belief that Trump will draw votes away from Democrats,

While Trump’s attacks didn’t move the needle among conservatives, his support among moderates fell from 39% to 24%, while Cruz’s jumped from 5% to 18%.

Trump’s campaign is based on hype, anger, lies, and nonsense. It is only a matter of time until this impending train wreck goes off the rails. The question is whether that will happen before or after the nomination is secured.

You’ve got to wonder about the judgement of Curz. I mean a voter “shaming record” in Iowa targeting voters and their neighbors?

    http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/wow-cruz-campaign-resorts-to-voter-shaming-weekend-before-iowa-caucus/

And this coming after a shellacking in the Trumpless debate.

  3. Fiberal says:

That’s actually a non-gain for Curz. We’re talking a little under 3 percentage points up from early to late January and a slip of 3% for Trump.

And then if you read down a bit you see this: The IBD/TIPP nationwide poll was conducted from Jan. 22 through Jan. 27.
It included 914 adults, and the margin of error is +/- 3.3 percentage
    points.

Among registered republicans and leaning republican, the error is 5%.

In other words, the margin of error covers a sample interval of 6 days and a relatively small sample size where the scores are within a range of 3 percentage points for each candidate. This totally wipes out any statistical differences between either of the candidate’s gains or losses.

It would have been better to take the midpoints of the Jan scores and compare them to Dec. That would show a gain of 6 for Curz and 5 for Trump; in other words, no movement at all.

Actually, I’m not surprised by MB posting this. What I am surprised at however, is IBD publishing this poll. IBD has a good track record of polling and doesn’t usually try something like this.

    Trumpitis setting in I suppose.

    Is this MoonBattery or DailyKos?

There are differences in minutia that I disagree with Trump about, but he has adamantly advocated a Wall, fixing our Trade deficits, repatriating our overseas dollars, and stopping TPP (AKA Obama-Trade).
Protecting our National Sovereignty is of the utmost importance, and Trump’s stance on these issues is unequivocal.
I really don’t care what polls say, Trump has my vote.

That’s what America is all about – we have differing opinions and can vote on our opinions. Problem is, too many in this country – especially those who say they’re conservative, won’t support the ultimate candidate and will stay home on election day, effectively casting a vote for the leftist democrat (sorry I’m being redundant).

Most here want nothing to do with Marco Rubio, yet if he becomes the Republican candidate, I will vote for him – not because I endorse all of his policies, but because he will do less damage than either Bernie Boy or Clinton. Both of them will very quickly leads us down the socialist path.

Hold your nose if you must, but to all who want Trump, I say if he isn’t the nominee, do what the democrats always do – unify behind their candidate. We must do the same and keep the damn leftists out of office. The next POTUS may have to replace as many as four Supreme Court justices, and if another commie gets in the White House, the RINO-infested Senate will rubber stamp his or her nominee, and then it’s lights out for the US folks.

In addition, the time for making the hold your nose argument is after the nomination, not in January when several players are still viable.

As for the rest of it, it seems to me one extreme (it matters a LOT and Cruz is EVILLLLLL) is as bad as the other. Projecting “Whateverrrrrrrrr” is your imagination, fair enough?

  79. BigFurHat says:

My point is that it was a big enough deal for you to go scrambling and digging around trying to find evidence that the Cruz mailer was FALSE (your caps, not mine) when everyone had already vetted the story.
Now when you finally get up to speed the story suddenly becomes “really not that big of a deal.”

    That’s weak.

    Fair enough?

Actually, you’re still making stuff up about me. FYI, I had inadvertently come across the claim it was false. I did not “go scrambling and digging around trying to find evidence”.

So, back to you. I challenge you to read back through this exchange between us and be honest about who is closer to personal attacks rather than just sticking to facts. You expected a retraction, which you received without delay.

btw, my point with using CAPS was that would be what I could’ve said if I actually made stuff up like you did with your “Whateverrrrrrrrr”. Is that now making sense?

I got respect for you, BFH; you can do better than this.

Would it be weird to use as proof that you lack judgement to offer up the above statement?

    Talk about a pyrrhic victory.

  85. S_O_T_A says:

Victory? Is that why you think what I wrote what I did?

How about we agree on truth and you treat me how I treated you? Would that be impossible?

He doesn’t have the kind of “record” like you are imposing.

    He hasn’t been a politician; he’s been a businessman.

  89. BigFurHat says:

You may think you’re being treated unfairly, but my point is reasonable.

–I retract. I agree the story is real, although >it is being made more of than really matters.

That’s very passive aggressive. That’s all I’m saying.

I’ve had days long debates with people who, in the end, say “I don’t know why you’re arguing this, it’s no big deal to me anyway.”
That’s a thing with me. Me no like.

What I can see, however, is that this argument we’re having is actually no big deal because we are on the same side.

I am not anti-Cruz. I am anti-left, which I am positive you are too.

So, I have no desire to get this silliness to the point of no return.

I’m sorry, but that is ridiculous. What principles you abide by in life matters, irrespective of occupation. Are you saying that nothing matters because he was a businessman? Most people would consider that a convenient double standard; I know I do.
