Venezuelan Navy Wages War on Cruise Ship, Loses

Not long ago, Venezuela was the wealthiest country in Latin America. Then it elected Hugo Chavez, the local version of Bernie Sanders. Now Venezuela is a joke. The joke isn’t funny for those trapped in the country with nothing to eat. It won’t be funny for Americans either, if the Democrat Party is successful at dragging us down Venezuela’s path. But at least for now we can laugh at stories like this:

A Venezuelan naval ship rammed a passenger vessel in international waters earlier this week, sinking only itself.

The Resolute, operated by Columbia Cruise Services (CCS), was suspected of transporting mercenaries intending to overthrow Venezuela’s paranoid socialist regime.

Shortly after midnight [on March 30], an armed Venezuelan ship approached the Resolute and requested that it sail to a Venezuelan port. While the Resolute was in contact with authorities regarding this large course deviation, “gun shots were fired and, [and] shortly thereafter, the navy vessel approached the starboard side at speed with an angle of 135° and purposely collided with the RCGS RESOLUTE. The navy vessel continued to ram the starboard bow in an apparent attempt to turn the ship’s head towards Venezuelan territorial waters,” says CCS.

The Resolute has a reinforced hull to protect it from ice. Consequently, it sustained only minor damage. The Venezuelan vessel was less sturdy. It sank, costing the government over $320 million. The entire crew was rescued, presumably by the ship they rammed.

Thank you, Maduro et al, for lighting our day with laughter.
