Vintage Hate Hoax: Michael Bennett

This Vintage Hate Hoax originally appeared on Moonbattery September 7, 2017:

No wonder zillionaire football players who in any other country would be emptying trashcans for a living regard America as so oppressive that they refuse to stand for the national anthem. Look what happened to Michael Bennett of the Seattle Seahawks:

“I’m going to die for no other reason than I am black and my skin color is somehow a threat.” That’s how Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett described his fear in a letter to the world detailing an August 26 police stop in Las Vegas that, in his telling, went very wrong.

“A police officer ordered me to get on the ground,” Bennett wrote. “As I laid on the ground, complying with his commands not to move, he placed his gun near my head and warned me that if I moved he would “‘blow my f[***]ing head off.’ Terrified and confused by what was taking place, a second officer came over and forcefully jammed his knee into my back, making it difficult for me to breathe. …

“The Officers’ excessive use of force was unbearable,” Bennett went on. “I felt helpless as I lay there on the ground handcuffed facing the real-life threat of being killed. All I could think of was “‘I’m going to die for no other reason than I am black and my skin color is somehow a threat.’ My life flashed before my eyes as I thought of my girls. Would I ever play with them again? Or watch them have kids? Or be able to kiss my wife again and tell her I love her?”

You can see why Bennett shouts that he will not stand for the Star-Spangled Banner, no matter how much he is paid. It’s not as if the NFL will require him to.

As for what actually happened, there is plenty of video to be reviewed. If the officers involved did anything wrong, they will no doubt face draconian punishment. But that doesn’t seem likely.

The story, sans Bennett’s hysterical self-pity:

Officers responded to reports of a possible active shooter in the casino around 1:30 on Aug. 27 after the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight.

According to [Las Vegas Police Department undersheriff Kevin] McMahill, the officers claimed that Bennett was crouched down behind a gaming machine and then was spotted running.

“You hear the officer approaching the door saying, ‘There he is.’ He gives chase, Mr. Bennett jumped over the wall, our officer jumped went over the wall immediately there after,” McMahill said. He said Bennett was detained for 10 minutes and released.

If Bennett is tough enough to play football, he can withstand 10 minutes in police custody without sniveling like a baby.

But sniveling like a baby pays rich rewards these days. Not only is the liberal media fawning over him, he even made the Hate Hoax List.
