US Defunding Forces United Nations to Cut Staffing

The spending blowout known as the Big Beautiful Bill may push us further along the pathway to fiscal collapse, but at least there is this:

[W]ith the Trump administration dead set on yanking most US funding to the United Nations, the world body is being forced to adapt to a constrained new fiscal reality…

[UN Secretary-General António] Guterres is seeking to eliminate 20% of jobs across the UN Secretariat, which employs some 35,000 people, and to make a 20% reduction to the UN’s regular budget, which covers essential programmes and administration costs, and is currently set at just under $3.7 billion for 2026.

Just as the Big Beautiful Bill is a step in the right direction insofar as it slows the explosive growth of government spending we have seen under Democrats, a 20% reduction in UN staffing is a positive step toward the 100% reduction that is necessary so that the world can be safe from this malign institution’s mix of incompetence, wastefulness, and moonbattery.
