Presenting the mentality Democrats have cultivated via the Welfare State:

Congratulations, social engineers. The concept of shame has been destigmatized out of existence. It has been replaced by the concept of entitlement.

As made conspicuous by its transgender contingent, every day is Halloween in Liberal Land. Tell members of the Democrat base they can’t have free candy, and they will become enraged — and SNAP beneficiaries comprise over 12% of the population.

This reveals the objective of the seemingly insane Schumer Shutdown. Even more than the Black Lives Matter riots, food riots would produce destabilization and constitute a show of force.
