Spending Blowout Features Entitlements for the Affluent

Democrats used to excuse their theft and redistribution of wealth as helping the needy. The blowout spending bill they are currently trying to ram through demonstrates that they have progressed beyond that. As the Wall Street Journal notes, it is bloated with entitlements for the affluent.

One egregious example is entrenching the expanded child tax credit. “Tax credit” is a euphemism for government handout.

A married couple making $150,000 a year with four children (two under the age of 6, two above) would qualify for $13,200 a year.

Another is paid family leave:

[A] married couple with a newborn—each earning $200,000 (Mr. Biden’s definition of a “rich” household)—could each collect more than $1,000 in weekly benefits, resulting in $24,000 of paid leave in one year. A couple making $100,000 each would be eligible for roughly the same amount.

Since Republicans failed to repeal ObamaCare, it is inevitably expanding:

A family of five with a 60-year-old head of household in Prescott, Ariz., for instance, could earn $350,000 a year and still qualify for an ObamaCare subsidy of $21,309. Even at $500,000 of income, that family would still get $8,559 in federal healthcare dollars.

No Democrat spending spree is complete without fortunes wasted on green posturing. This one includes a $12,500 bonus for buying an economically inefficient and environmentally destructive but politically fashionable electric car.

Since EVs cost between $10,000 and $15,000 more than similar gas-powered vehicles, this money will mostly flow to well-off coastal dwellers, especially in California.

Speaking of transferring money from the heartland to wealthy blue states,

The biggest subsidy of all may be the return of the state and local tax deduction. Speaker Nancy Pelosi has promised her Members “meaningful” relief above the current $10,000 cap.

Who pays for all this, the rich? Hardly. Democrats are the party of the rich. Eventually they will have to have to drop the preposterous pretense that their extravagant spending is somehow free. The bill will come due.

Democrats will send that bill to the middle class when the cost of their entitlements for the affluent is too entrenched to repeal.

As with ObamaCare, not only will the entitlements not be repealed, they will continue to grow, until the economy collapses under their weight. Then Democrats can drop the incremental approach and impose a straightforward command-and-control economy. They want to bring this about by buying the upper middle class with its own money through unjustifiable entitlements to people who don’t need them. This will allow the wealthy ruling class to pull the ladder up after them so no one can follow.
