Mamdani Appoints Anti-cop Moonbat to Be NYC Sheriff

What happens to a society when the police hate the police? New York City is about to find out. Zohran Mamdani has appointed radical left-winger Edwin Raymond to be NYC sheriff.

Leftists believe that everything imaginable centers on slavery still existing in parts of the USA 2 centuries ago, so Raymond views the police in this light, comparing them to slave patrols. The New York Post quotes the moonbat:

“So slave patrol were basically, militias, if you will, during the time when slavery was legal, whose job was to catch runaway slaves. And after the Civil War, many of them literally just rolled over into police departments.”

Also, Jim Crow:

In his 2023 book “An Inconvenient Cop,” Raymond doubled down, saying “today’s police force is the kin of the slave patrols of the nineteenth century and the Black Codes of the Jim Crow South.”

Raymond has expressed his hostility to the police by engaging in lawfare:

In 2015, Raymond and 11 other black and Hispanic cops made headlines by filing a federal lawsuit against the NYPD, accusing Transit Bureau supervisors of mandating arrest quotas of people of color.

The case was dismissed but is still under appeal. The odds of the allegations having any validity whatsoever in ultraleft NYC are remote.

Raymond’s race-based ideology has benefited criminals:

In 2017, the NYPD launched an internal probe against Raymond for giving a domestic violence suspect a slide for being Black.

He regards the accidental death of Eric Garner while resisting arrest as an example of “systemic racism.” Mamdani has effectively turned over the sheriff’s office to Black Lives Matter.
