Democrats don’t like Donald Trump because he is obnoxious and disrespectful — and also because the former president is a “creature,” as Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi shrieks:
“I mean, the point is, is, who would have ever suspected that a creature like Donald Trump would become president of the United States, waving a list of judges that he would appoint, therefore, getting the support of the far right, and appointing those anti-just freedom justices to the court?”
One more trip to the plastic surgeon and Pelosi will qualify as a creature herself.
Pelousy is right about one thing. She says the uproar over finally overturning Roe v. Wade is “not just about terminating a pregnancy,” which is Euphemese for “not just about killing babies.”
Roe v. Wade doesn’t settle abortion, but only kicks it back to the legislative branch where it belongs. The real issue is whether the Constitution is still in force. If we are going to pretend that the Constitution says whatever liberals want it to say, then in effect there is no Constitution, and this is no longer a constitutional republic. Even Democrats know that abortion is not mentioned in the US Constitution.
She gets something else almost right: “I don’t think that it’s up to the Donald Trump appointees on the court or any politicians to make that decision for women.” True enough, abortion is not up to Supreme Court justices. That is the whole point of repealing Roe v. Wade. It should be up to voters, until such a time as a constitutional amendment guarantees the right to life, as it probably already would if it had occurred to the Founding Fathers that such an amendment would ever be needed.
