Covid has allowed Big Government to exploit its intrusive involvement in public health to run roughshod over liberties that many thought Americans would fight to the last man before surrendering. Pushback must be crushed by force under the guise of suppressing “misinformation,” according to white-coated tyrants like NIH Director Francis Collins.

The Washington Post provides his megaphone:

[Collins] sees two ways of attempting to curb the spread of misinformation, though admits he’s unsure how successful either has been.

• The first: Identify those who are purposefully spreading false information online and bring them to justice.

• The second: Find a better way to counter false claims with real information. He didn’t specify what exactly either one would entail.

No need to specify what “bring them to justice” entails. It means you don’t just ban people from YouTube and Twitter if they contradict the Democrat Party line; you throw them in prison.

Collins gripes about having to live in a society where “somebody’s Facebook post carries as much weight as a statement from the director of the CDC about what is the truth of a public health crisis.”

Here’s an idea for fixing that: replace clowns like Rochelle Walensky and Anthony Fauci with people who are more interested in public health than party politics or their own bloated egos.

The authorities have squandered their credibility. Rebuilding it will require hard work on their part, not more censorship of dissenting voices.

However, our rulers are not in the mood to seek redemption:

Earlier this year, President Joe Biden accused social media platforms – which already seriously limit anti-vax and vaccine-skeptic content – of “killing people” with misinformation, and threatened these platforms with increased regulation. More recently, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla called people spreading “misinformation” on vaccines “criminals” who “have literally cost millions of lives.”

Happily, Collins is on the way out the door. Unhappily, under Democrat rule he is certain to be replaced with another authoritarian apparatchik for whom “public health” is just a means to an end.

California’s case rate is now well above Texas’ and double Florida’s, which along with the rest of the Gulf Coast are down to the CDC’s orange “substantial” transmission level.

Meanwhile Sweden, which never locked down, is doing fine.

Any price is too low to sell liberty. People who succumb to Covid hysteria give their liberty away and get nothing but lies in return. Liberty is not the only price paid, as Thomas Lifson notes:

All we have to show for it is a lesson: self-proclaimed Experts should be regarded with extreme skepticism, especially when they speak on behalf of the power-mad liberal establishment.
