Under Democrat rule, the US government has a single purpose: to impose leftist ideology. Consequently, whatever they pretend to be spending our money on, chances are good they are spending it on moonbattery:

While “gaps remain in funding rates by race and ethnicity for research project grants,” Bernard said the NIH is “encouraged by the overall trends.”

DEI is unlikely to improve the quality of scientific research. But instituting Critical Race Theory as the official state religion takes precedence over curing cancer.
