Envelope Pushed Too Far for French Kindergarten

Utopia has not yet been achieved. French kindergarten teacher Sylvain Helaine has been discriminated against for making himself into a terrifying freak:

A schoolteacher whose body, face and tongue are covered in tattoos and who has had the whites of his eyes surgically turned black said he was prevented from teaching at a French kindergarten after a parent complained he scared their child.

Sylvain Helaine, age 35, was teaching kindergarten at the Docteur Morere Elementary School, which they might want to rename after Doctor Moreau, in Palaiseau, a suburb of Paris. It appears that he did not actually lose his job, as the article states that he “still teaches children from the age of six up.” But after parents complained that he gave their son nightmares, younger kids are spared because they “could be frightened by his appearance.”

I can’t imagine why.

Helaine started the process of self-freakification at age 27, when he experienced an “existential crisis.”

He said he hoped to show his pupils that they should accept people who are different from the norm. “Maybe when they are adults they will be less racist and less homophobic and more open-minded,” he said.

With a pitch like that, if he does lose his job, he should come to the USA. Schools would fight over him.

On tips from Adam, Rapinhoe, Dragon’s Lair, and Kate P.
