Just how malevolent are the leftists infesting our universities? An actual abstract from a paper published in the journal Bioethics that calls for making us allergic to meat with toxic ticks offers a clue:
The bite of the lone star tick spreads alpha-gal syndrome (AGS), a condition whose only effect is the creation of a severe but nonfatal red meat allergy.
Actually, the effects of AGS are not so nonfatal. Health officials want to protect the public from it. Righteously posturing academics disapprove:
[I]f eating meat is morally impermissible, then efforts to prevent the spread of tickborne AGS are also morally impermissible.
As usual in the Ivory Tower, malign lunacy is propped up with pretentious jargon:
[T]ickborne AGS is a moral bioenhancer if and when it motivates people to stop eating meat.
Disease is now recategorized as a “moral bioenhancer” if it promotes the liberal policy objective of preventing a normal human diet, presumably in compliance with left-wing climate ideology.
It is presently feasible to genetically edit the disease-carrying capacity of ticks. If this practice can be applied to ticks carrying AGS, then promoting the proliferation of tickborne AGS is morally obligatory.
Such a project might expect a massive infusion of funding from Bill Gates.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
Alpha-gal syndrome (AGS) is a serious, potentially life-threatening allergy to alpha-gal that can develop after a tick bite.
The Daily Sceptic notes that it can also induce allergic reactions to dairy products and gelatin. Also:
There are reported to be at least 10 deaths attributed to alpha-gal reactions to medical products, with most fatalities due to anaphylactic shock.
The paper’s authors Parker Crutchfield and Blake Hereth hail from Western Michigan University. Across the state earlier this year:
Yunqing Jian, 33, and Zunyong Liu, 34, citizens of the People’s Republic of China, were charged in a criminal complaint with conspiracy, smuggling goods into the United States, false statements, and visa fraud…
They were working at a lab at the University of Michigan.
The FBI arrested Jian in connection with allegations related to Jian’s and Liu’s smuggling into America a fungus called Fusarium graminearum, which scientific literature classifies as a potential agroterrorism weapon. This noxious fungus causes “head blight,” a disease of wheat, barley, maize, and rice, and is responsible for billions of dollars in economic losses worldwide each year. Fusarium graminearum’s toxins cause vomiting, liver damage, and reproductive defects in humans and livestock.
Maybe that would please the climate too, by helping to reduce the human population. No word on whether the ChiCommies received funding from Bill Gates.
Hat tip: Modernity.
