Now that leftists comprise the establishment, their prior reverence for free speech has given way to scorn. Chip Franklin is an obvious example. Prominent Democrat mouthpiece Stephen Colbert is another.

As noted earlier, Peter Doocy is a rare legitimate White House reporter, who — instead of fawning over Biden like liberal establishment “journalists” — does his job by asking some of the questions the public would like to ask. Instead of answering, Biden should slap him across the face, according to Colbert:

That they are able to fill a whole studio audience with people willing to applaud this cockroach and even to pretend he is funny is a damning indictment of the human race.

As Breitbart notes,

When President Donald Trump was in office, Colbert styled himself as a champion of press freedom. He boosted then-CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta, who made a habit of confronting Trump and his press secretaries in media briefings.

Acosta was infamous for grandstanding and goading rather than asking questions — to Colbert’s delight.

Both sides used to agree that without a free press that does more than serve as a propaganda wing of the ruling party, democracy is doomed. But leftists can reverse themselves on any principle, so long as it serves the primary underlying objective of consolidating power.
