Long considered among the best medical schools in the world, UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine accepted only 1.3% of applicants in 2023. Unfortunately, under dean of admissions Jennifer Lucero, the selectivity is based less on merit than on moonbattery:

In interviews with the Free Beacon and complaints to UCLA officials, including investigators in the university’s Discrimination Prevention Office, faculty members with firsthand knowledge of the admissions process say it has prioritized diversity over merit, resulting in progressively less qualified classes that are now struggling to succeed.

Race-based admissions have turned UCLA into a “failed medical school,” said one former member of the admissions staff.

Within three years of Lucero’s hiring in 2020, UCLA dropped from 6th to 18th place in U.S. News & World Report’s rankings for medical research. And in some of the cohorts she admitted, more than 50 percent of students failed standardized tests on emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics.

Those tests, known as shelf exams, which are typically taken at the end of each clinical rotation, measure basic medical knowledge and play a pivotal role in residency applications. Though only 5 percent of students fail each test nationally, the rates are much higher at UCLA, having increased tenfold in some subjects since 2020, according to internal data obtained by the Free Beacon.

The ultimate test is in the operating room:

One professor said that a student in the operating room could not identify a major artery when asked, then berated the professor for putting her on the spot.

What else would you expect in a world where you get ahead not by working hard or knowing what you are doing but by belligerently whimpering that you are a victim?

“All the normal criteria for getting into medical school only apply to people of certain races,” an admissions officer said. “For other people, those criteria are completely disregarded.”

The effect is that the candidates most likely to succeed are weeded out in favor of those least likely.

Led by Lucero, who also serves as the vice chair for equity, diversity, and inclusion of UCLA’s anesthesiology department, the admissions committee routinely gives black and Latino applicants a pass for subpar metrics, four people who served on it said, while whites and Asians need near perfect scores to even be considered.

The bar for underrepresented minorities is “as low as you could possibly imagine,” one committee member told the Free Beacon. “It completely disregards grades and achievements.”

Surely if Kamala Harris is qualified to be vice president, any Woman of Color is qualified to be a doctor. Those who feel differently are treated harshly:

Lucero hasn’t been kind to dissenters. … She has lashed out at officials who question the qualifications of minority candidates, five sources said, suggesting naysayers are “privileged,” implying that they are racist, and subjecting them to diversity training sessions.

In a new study, those who underwent sex change surgery were 12 times more likely to commit suicide than those who did not:

The study utilized patient data from 56 health care organizations in the U.S. and over 90 million patients. Four different groups of patients were looked at in the study, including 1,501 people aged 18-60 who had “gender-affirming surgery” and an emergency visit (cohort A) and 15,608,363 adults who visited the emergency room but had no “gender-affirming surgery” (cohort B). The third group (cohort C) included 142,093 “adults with emergency visits, tubal ligation or vasectomy, but no gender-affirming surgery,” while a fourth group of patients with pharyngitis (cohort D) was studied “to validate the results from cohort C.”

“Data from February 4, 2003, to February 4, 2023, were analyzed to examine suicide attempts, death, self-harm, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) within five years of the index event,” the study said, adding that its results found that “Individuals who underwent gender-affirming surgery had a 12.12-fold higher suicide attempt risk than those who did not.”

Few reasonable people will be surprised by these results. Having your body painfully disfigured into a freakish parody of the opposite sex is hardly likely to improve mental health. Nonetheless, the wicked lie that sexually mutilating children protects them from suicide is pushed by the liberal establishment, including the Biden Regime.

The Biden administration recently finalized regulations that will provide taxpayer-funded benefits to individuals who came into this country lacking authorization, by defining them as “lawfully present.”

Illegal aliens are not lawfully present. Except now they are. Because Biden’s bureauweenies say so.

The prime controversy in both last year’s proposed rule and this year’s final version is over health coverage for individuals participating in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Both regulations would revise the definition of “lawfully present” to include DACA participants for purposes of participation in health programs under Obamacare.

As Joe Wilson observed years ago, Democrats were lying when they barked that the illegal aliens they have been importing for purposes of demographic engineering would not get their healthcare at our expense via ObamaCare.

The idea that a president can unilaterally declare a group of individuals “lawfully” present without the consent of Congress defies logic, not to mention the basic principles of “our democracy” that the left purports to care so much about.

The essay by Mercedes “describes how weight came to be pathologized and medicalized in racialized terms” and offers guidance on “resisting entrenched fat oppression,” according to the course syllabus. Mercedes claims that “ob*sity” is a slur “used to exact violence on fat people”—particularly “Black, disabled, trans, poor fat people”—and offers a “fat ode to care” that students are instructed to analyze, taking note of which sections “most resonate with you.”

Obesity is not a slur or an oppressed identity but a medical disorder that will take years if not decades off your life. It is associated with heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, osteoarthritis, gout, depression, gallbladder disease, and obstructive sleep apnea, among other conditions.

Yet even as the nanny state anarchotyrants running New York require warning labels on hot chocolate lest someone pack on a few extra ounces, doctors are trained to revere obesity rather that to help their patients overcome it — because cultural Marxism.

A disabled Pennsylvanian woman is speaking out after Planned Parenthood Keystone dismissed her from medical treatment over what they allege are “anti-trans and transphobic” views. The woman, who uses the pseudonym Jane Lane, had been receiving healthcare at the Pennsylvania clinic for over a decade.

With Democrats in charge, Planned Parenthood is in effect a branch of the government. It is funded lavishly with taxpayer money. Much of this is kicked back to Democrats as campaign donations. Democrat apparatchiks will break the kneecaps of those who give Planned Parenthood trouble, as when Kamala Harris went after journalist David Daleiden for exposing Planned Parenthood’s practice of selling body parts harvested from the children it kills.

Without warning, Lane’s upcoming medical appointment was canceled, and she was not allowed to make future appointments. A letter from Planned Parenthood Keystone CEO Trish Tashjian made explicit that Lane was being punished for her viewpoint:

“The dismissal from services is due to repeated offensive conversations and symbols that contradict our commitment to creating an inclusive and compassionate environment for both staff and patients.”

Lane was denounced for “anti-trans and transphobic rhetoric and symbols.”

The letter was initially shared on X by @TTExulansic, who also included photos of the shirts Lane had occasionally worn to her appointments. Among the shirts were those with slogans “Make Women Female Again”; “Woman: Adult Human Female”; and “100% Natural Woman, Female Original.”

That is, her crime is to have affirmed that only women are women. That they regard this fact as impermissible provides insight into whether the ostensible feminists at Planned Parenthood really support women.

Meanwhile,

Lane says she witnessed a Planned Parenthood staff member with yellow and purple hair wearing similarly politicized t-shirts and jewelry, including a “smash the gender binary” pin and “they/them” pronoun earrings.

In a show of liberal tolerance, Planned Parenthood agreed to see Lane “in case of medical emergencies until 5/10/2024” — which is more compassion than you might expect from people who mainly kill babies for a living.

You can see why Democrats have made a priority of incrementally seizing control of healthcare. It gives them significant leverage to punish resistance.

Applicants for a job as a surgical oncologist must submit a “Statement of Contributions to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion,” to be considered at the University of California Davis.

“Contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion documented in the application file will be used to evaluate applicants,” the job listing for an “academic surgical oncologist/breast surgeon” states.

Iran is considered a totalitarian theocracy because everyone is required to comply with Islam. But I doubt you need to submit a statement detailing your contributions to jihad to work as a surgeon. The ayatollahs running the place are fanatical, but not compared to the moonbats running our schools.

[W]hile a DEI statement is mandatory, a “Statement of Teaching” and “Statement of Research” both are listed as optional under the job application instructions.

You can’t prioritize everything.

The thread begins with one member asking how they come up with appropriate standards and best practices for non-binary patients, adding: “I’ve found more and more patients recently requesting ‘non-standard’ procedures such as top surgery without nipples, nullification, and phallus-preserving vaginoplasty.”

In response to the message thread, Prof Arcelus suggests that such controversial procedures may become “standard” in future, and, as such, should not be referred to as “non-standard”.

The NHS (National Health Service) is Britain’s socialized healthcare system. That puts taxpayers on the hook for these potentially standard procedures — as in Canada:

An Ontario resident has successfully secured public funding for a specialized gender-affirming surgery argued to be “experimental” by the provincial health insurer following a years-long legal battle.

He will go to Texas for the bizarre procedure at a cost to taxpayers of up to $70,000.

The prospective patient, identified only as K.S. in documents filed with the provincial Health Services Appeal and Review Board (HSARB), was seeking coverage under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) for a penile-preserving vaginoplasty, a procedure in which a vaginal cavity is surgically created while keeping the penis intact.

This week, [Ontario’s Divisional Court] ruled 3-0 that KS was entitled to have the surgery funded by the taxpayer after finding that the province had incorporated standards written by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) into its health insurance law.

Maybe he would be the one to ask about whole body amputation for body integrity dysphoria.

Expert Nadia Nadeau of the Department of Psychiatry at Université Laval declares this surgical disfigurement a success, writing that “he was able to pursue the life he envisioned as a complete human being without those two fingers bothering him.”

If you can become your authentic self by pretending to be a member of the opposite sex, it stands to reason that you can become a complete human being by cutting off body parts.

Dr. Nadeau characterizes this ghastly example of deliberate malpractice as “a highly satisfying curative treatment” because “amputation enabled him to live in alignment with his perceived identity.”

The Mass General Brigham Hospital system … will no longer report suspected abuse or neglect to the state solely if a newborn baby tests positive for drugs after birth.

Instead, hospitals will now require written consent before conducting a drug test on the expectant mother or infant, in most cases.

The old policy saved babies’ lives but had disparate impact:

Mass General Brigham said the move is to address the “racial and ethnic inequities” present in healthcare, adding that substance abuse disorder in the context of pregnancy more “disproportionately affects Black individuals.”

The disparate impact was that it saved more black babies, since black mothers are more likely to be on drugs. That undermines the Narrative, according to which black problems are not self-imposed but rather are inflicted by the evil white man. So babies are sacrificed.

Good thing it is subsidized by taxpayers.
