Lessons of the Schumer Shutdown

The Schumer Shutdown was a debacle, but at least people learned a few things. Scott Jennings points to two clear lessons:

• ObamaCare is an utter failure, as proven by how far Democrats will go to prolong subsidies to make it seem functional.
• Democrats are willing to inflict pain on the public for political expediency.

Hopefully we will learn to keep Big Government out of healthcare so as to make it more available and affordable.

We also learned that SNAP is a looting spree that should be replaced by Nutraloaf.

How Oregon Spends Medicaid Funds to Advance Liberalism

In states where Democrats have consolidated control, tax dollars do things never previously imagined — like send the developmentally disabled to bars and strip clubs:

[Oregon State Representative Dwayne] Yunker—a Republican lawmaker in a very blue state with a Democrat super majority in the legislature—has exposed this and other controversial Medicaid spending in the state that has little or nothing to do with medical or health issues. …

He noted in the letter that $2.3 million in Medicaid funds were paid in the last year to an organization that housed a Venezuelan gang member charged with kidnapping, torture, and attempted murder. Further, Medicaid reimbursements have paid for “sex change” operations on minors.

With moonbats in charge, healthcare is not about healthcare; as with all things, it is about moonbattery.

The use of Medicaid funds to advance liberalism has been going on for a while:

Oregon announced two years ago that it was allowing illegal immigrants to access Medicaid benefits, saying, “As of July 1, 2023, people of all ages who meet income and other criteria qualify for full OHP [Oregon Medicaid] benefits and other services and supports, no matter their immigration status.”

Free healthcare is not the only benefit unlawful foreign invaders might achieve by advancing the Democrat policy of demographic displacement.

The state also notes online that Medicaid dollars can go for temporary rental assistance as well as nutrition assistance.

Moonbat rule is a looting spree that will continue to until either Democrats have been pried from power or the country has been bled dry.

Moonbattery Applied to Healthcare

Every institution that moonbats infiltrate, they subvert. In the case of healthcare, this makes for a dangerous situation. People we have trusted with our lives can no longer be trusted if they place a malevolent ideology ahead of professionalism and decency.

In an incident caught on camera [October 11], a Houston hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) nurse told a police officer that, if they ever came into her hospital, she’d let him and all his family members die – because “You’re not that great a person.”

Crystal Tadlock, a 35 year-old nurse at Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital, was in the back of a police car and under arrest when she made the threat.

Tadlock’s case may have been more a matter of drunkenness than politically motivated malice. However, both incidents draw attention to the alarming intrusion of the vicious discord promoted by liberalism into the realm of healthcare.

Oregon to Spend More on Free Healthcare for Migrants Than on State Police

There is no need for Democrats to shut down the federal government for weeks on end. If they want taxpayers to be forced to provide free healthcare to illegal aliens, they could just move to Oregon:

Oregon officials expect to spend $1.5 billion in combined state and federal taxpayer dollars on a program that offers health benefits to illegal aliens from 2025 to 2027. They expect to spend $717 million on Oregon State Police over the same period…

Those of us lucky enough not to live in Oregon get to help pick up the tab for the free healthcare:

The federal government will supply 25% of the funding to provide health benefits to illegal aliens in Oregon, the [Oregon Health Authority] told the [Daily Caller News Foundation].

Technically, illegal aliens are not allowed to cash in on Medicaid.

But some blue states have innovated creative accounting methods to extract federal dollars without the federal restrictions, according to the Paragon Health Institute, a non-partisan policy research group. Blue states will issue taxes on Medicaid insurers and providers, obtain a bundle of federal matching dollars for those funds, then return the taxed money to those institutions, the think tank points out.

Spending on health services for illegal aliens in Oregon has climbed by at least 1100% since the program’s introduction roughly four years ago.
