The smoke has begun to clear. We can look back on the Covid crisis and determine who addressed it the right way and who did not. As usual, freedom worked. Tyranny did not work.
The results are in:
New York, New Jersey and California failed in their handling of the COVID-19 pandemic because of stringent lockdowns and policies, while Florida was among the best-performing states in the country, a new study has found.
The study, published by the Committee To Unleash Prosperity, graded states by comparing COVID-19 outcomes based on the number of deaths, the economy and impact on education.
By a remarkable coincidence, the best-performing states all had Republican governors.
The study found that the states that locked down businesses, churches, schools and restaurants for lengthy periods did not have lower death rates than those that largely remained open.
But they did manage to inflict more economic damage.
Keeping schools closed had no impact on the number of deaths in children or adults, according to the study.
That was more about placating teachers unions than public health.
Ultraliberal New York came in 49th out of 50; only New Jersey was worse. Yet the liberal establishment assured us that the lethally incompetent, tyrannical, but formerly beloved New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was doing a wonderful job:

AP reports from China’s largest city:
The fresh round of testing comes as the city reported about 23,000 cases on Saturday, most of them asymptomatic. Large swathes of Shanghai, with a population of 26 million, have been under lockdown since March 28, leading to complaints from residents about shortages of food and basic necessities.
Residents in locked-down areas are not allowed to leave their homes.
Some have received government food packages containing meat and vegetables. Many, however, are struggling to obtain rice and other basics, with online vendors sold out and delivery services unable to keep up with demand.
It’s all part of China’s zero Covid policy. Democrats watch and learn, as they formulate policies to address future pandemics and the imaginary climate crisis.
Hopefully, they will learn that even in China — which does not have America’s tradition of individual liberty — people can be pushed only so far.

Progressives are righteous advocates of the separation of church and state when the concept can be exploited to shut down traditional viewpoints or to marginalize Christianity. When churches can be used to ram the statist agenda down the congregation’s throat, they feel differently:
Many who have chosen not to get the COVID-19 shots have cited religious objections. Now Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf’s administration wants church leaders to bring vaccination events into churches.
Pennsylvania’s public health leaders want to “harness the power of community trust in statewide faith-based organizations” to convince folks to get a COVID-19 shot. That is according to the mission statement of the Faith-based Organization Coalition, which is being formed under the state’s Department of Health and is expected to launch April 11.
“Harness the power of community trust.” Our leftist ruling class harnessed the power of our trust in the media. That trust has been expended and no longer exists. Then they harnessed our trust in the scientific cognoscenti. Anthony Fauci frittered away the last of it. Now liberals will find public trust to betray wherever they can find it, even if it means holding their noses and setting foot in churches.
As usual with Big Government, the program will be financed at least in part by money confiscated from people who would be appalled to see it spent this way.
The state aims to reduce vaccine hesitancy through the “Local Innovations in Vaccine Equity in Pennsylvania” project (LIVE PA), which is a grant program that pays churches and nonprofits to speak with their people and persuade them to get vaccinated.
If there isn’t enough pushback, next bureaucrats will pay churches to denounce fossil fuels, praise Black Lives Matter, assure us that inflation isn’t that bad, proclaim that children should be subjected to genital mutilation on behalf of the LGBT agenda, et cetera.
There will be ever more of these church–state partnerships as churches are infiltrated, subverted, hollowed out, and subordinated to the one true religion recognized by our ruling class, moonbattery. Before long, the concept of separating church and state will fade from memory, like the Tenth Amendment.

South Africa is the template for progressives because its demographics at least theoretically guarantee permanent left-wing rule. Here’s how that applies to Covid:
A set of new draft laws introduced in South Africa could make permanent some of the liberty-crushing measures imposed on citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic, and enshrine into law a type of medical caste system formally excluding the unvaccinated from public life.
Among the intrusive decrees is a mask mandate for all public areas, including public transportation.
The laws are needed because even if Covid disappears entirely — or peters out as it already has into the mild Omicron variant, which originated in South Africa — it might come back some day.
Under the new draft laws, unvaccinated citizens could be banned from all indoor events with more than 1,000 people and all outdoor events with more than 2,000 people.
Only about half of South Africans are counted as fully vaccinated. The rest will be the equivalent of Hindu “Dalits.”
Bad enough to be white in South Africa. Imagine being white and unvaccinated. Life isn’t fun at the bottom of a caste system.
The draft rules are to apply not only to Covid but to “ALL notifiable health conditions.” If Omicron qualifies as a pretext to impose these restrictions, so might the next round of flu.
As Democrat Alliance leader John Steenhuisen observes:
“The ANC government is no longer fighting the spread of Covid. It is fighting to hold on to the powers it has become accustomed to.”
This will hold true to varying degrees in every country where leftists have exploited Covid to increase their power.

The bureaucrats at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are not as useless as they seem. They have managed to retroactively prevent 24% of pediatric Covid deaths. Regrettably, the deaths still occurred — but they were no longer caused by Covid.

On Tuesday, the agency was reporting on its COVID Data Tracker that 1,755 Americans under age 18 had died from the virus since the pandemic began in spring 2020. Now, it is reporting 1,341 deaths in that category.
The CDC blames a “coding logic error.”
The real number is lower still:
According to the CDC’s weekly provisional data, only 921 children have died for reasons “involving COVID-19,” an even lower number than the official data tracker now presents.
Even the CDC admits that children comprise <0.1% of Covid deaths. Yet the faulty stats it excretes are seized upon to force children to take unnecessary vaccines with unknowable long-term effects. As noted at Epoch Times,
[T]he statistics are often cited by doctors and others when pushing for COVID-19 vaccination, including figures who believe virtually all children should be vaccinated. Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the CDC’s director, cited the tracker’s death total in November 2021 while pushing for an expert panel to advise her agency to recommend vaccination for all children 5- to 11-years-old.
Under liberal rule, health policy has become so hyperpoliticized that no government statistics can be taken at face value.

After Mitt Romney sided with Democrats to extend a sadistic federal mask mandate on toddlers, the question came up once again: what the hell motivates these people?
By now even Mitt Romney should understand that making toddlers wear Covid muzzles is not in their interest. Covid was never a serious threat to them, even before the mild Omicron variant. The masks are harmful to their mental and physical health. As with the Democrats he sides with, his motives are difficult to comprehend.
Since our ruling class is absurd, it is fitting that a comedian found the answer. Adam Carolla explains to Megyn Kelly:
“Well, just remember this phrase, Megyn: ‘crate training.’ You cannot train a dog when it’s middle-aged. You got to get them when they’re puppies. And get them trained up and into that crate. And that’s what we’re doing with kids. Because this will not be the last emergency, and it will not be the last time the government and the governor and the mayor need to exact their power. And so, ‘Let’s get the kids into the crate. Let’s get them coached up. And then they’ll be ours. We can do whatever we want with them after that, they’ll listen to anything. They’ll be good subjects.’”
The idea is to create a generation that will comply with the Great Reset, whether it is imposed in the name of a virus, the weather, or a crisis to be named later.
The training can cut both ways:
Kelly agreed and said that she believed it was important for parents to discuss with their children what she said was senseless continued masking in schools.
She added that the point of the pandemic Americans are in has prompted them to move from complying with mask guidance and lockdown mandates to fighting for everyday freedoms.
If kids remember the miserable muzzles as an example of what you have to endure when moonbats have too much power, they might grow up not to be so compliant after all.
