Pay With Food Stamps at Restaurants

There is no such thing as a free lunch. But there is such a thing as a lunch someone else has been forced to pick up the tab for — including lunch in a restaurant:

Colorado lawmakers have proposed bipartisan legislation to expand food assistance benefits to allow recipients to use them to buy meals from restaurants.

Senate Bill 169 requires the state Department of Human Services to submit an application by Jan. 1, 2026 to the U.S. Department of Agriculture requesting to join the federal Restaurant Meals Program.

As of June 2024, nine other states have already adopted this program.

The program would allow eligible Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients to purchase hot or prepared foods at participating restaurants.

SNAP began as food stamps. The original justification was to prevent people from starving. That was the thin edge of a socialist wedge, as you can confirm by the girth of the average SNAP card shopper waddling through the supermarket behind a cartful of snacks.

Big Government freebies always come with strings attached to the liberal agenda. As part of the campaign to drown out American culture, participating restaurants may be “encouraged” to serve food representing “diverse cultural traditions.” “Underinvested communities” — a euphemism for nonwhite neighborhoods — are given special consideration.

Oppressed diners are still required to use their own money when tipping valet parking drivers. But as progressivism progresses, this will surely be covered by taxpayers too.

What a Fired NOAA Bureaucrat Did for Our Money

Before popping champagne corks over the many $billions of waste DOGE has saved taxpayers, spare a thought for promising careers that have suffered a setback, as with this former “public affairs specialist”:

Tom Di Liberto, the ousted employee, called his termination from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) “ridiculous” in a Monday interview with CNN’s John Berman… Di Liberto was the creator and star of “Teek and Tom Explore Planet Earth,” an animated series produced by NOAA at a cost exceeding $3 million, according to federal spending records.

The probationary employee was told that his “skills and abilities no longer met the agency’s needs,” now that the Swamp is getting an overdue draining.

Regarding what Di Liberto did for taxpayers,

The five-part series, intended to educate children about Earth’s weather and climate, stars Di Liberto as himself alongside Teek, an apparently androgynous, cyclopean extraterrestrial from the planet “Queloz.” Teek is addressed using they/them, or “gender-neutral” pronouns in transcripts provided on NOAA’s website.

Virtually no one has been watching the videos:

The series’ most popular installment, “Episode 4: An Ocean of Data From Cool Technology,” [had] amassed over 150 views on YouTube as of Monday.

Now that Di Liberto is in the news, it still has only 568 views after being up there for a month. However, with liberals it is not results but politically correct intentions that count.

Study Links Sex Change Surgery to Suicidal Ideation

Unconscionably, healthcare professionals who for ideological or financial motives inflict sex change procedures on children employ emotional blackmail against parents by persuading them that failing to undergo irreversible freakification could cause their kids to commit suicide. Evidence accrues that the reverse is true:

A comprehensive study recently published in the Oxford Academic Journal of Sexual Medicine has raised significant concerns about the mental health outcomes of individuals undergoing sex-change surgeries. …

According to the researchers, “Our analysis reveals a significantly elevated risk of mental health disorders—including depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and substance use disorder—post-surgery among individuals with a prior diagnosis of gender dysphoria.”

Looks like letting kids grow out of this sick fad like most of them do if allowed to will leave them with less to commit suicide about. Who would have thought?

As for adults, there are more constructive ways to deal with mental illness than grotesque attempts to force reality to conform to delusions through surgery.

Cage-Free Eggs Not What They’re Cracked Up to Be

Sick of paying too much for eggs? Blame the moonbats who champion the alleged interests of chickens at our expense by demanding they be cage-free:

The current bird flu pandemic has seen nearly 150 million egg-laying hens culled in the US, driving prices through the roof.

Liberal California has been one of the hardest hit, where a 2018 law mandated that all eggs produced and sold in the nation’s most populous state be cage-free by 2022 — coincidentally, the same year the current H5N1 outbreak began.

Or maybe not so coincidentally.

While a 2023 USDA analysis found no significant correlation between housing type and initial infection, it’s common sense that pathogens would spread faster in cage-free facilities.

As for the USDA analysis, Big Government studies tend to find the results they look for. That’s the point of the studies.

Unfortunately, what moonbats inflict in California does not stay in California:

California had been a top egg-producer, but such regulations forced farmers to flee the state and egg production has plummeted.

That didn’t stop the mandate from having a ripple effect across the entire industry, with eight other states following suit, and today 40% of eggs sold in the US are cage-free, up from just 5% in 2010.

Corporate posturing has played a part:

Before this year, cage-free eggs — rapidly becoming the industry standard thanks to California’s market influence and buyers like Walmart and McDonald’s pledging to go cage-free — cost between 20% and 130% more at grocery stores.

Not even the chickens benefit. Crowding the birds together instead of separating them in cages not only spreads disease but results in increased stress and even cannibalism due to pecking order issues.

But at least liberals get a warm glow of righteousness when they see “cage-free” on their carton of eggs.

University of Sussex Offers Degree in Climate Justice

The term “climate justice” strikes the normal ear as woke duckspeak, if not moonbattery sarcastically pushed to the point of parody. That’s because normal people are uninitiated in the credenda of progressivism. “Climate justice” has a meaning, but it is only comprehensible through advanced indoctrination. For that, we have institutions like the University of Sussex:

The BA in Climate Justice, Sustainability and Development, which will begin in 2026, will equip students with a unique blend of expertise in climate politics, activism, and environmental human rights. This will be combined with the practical green skills – the know-how and abilities needed to work in ways that help protect the environment – needed to drive real-world change.

It’s nice to know educrats have their feet firmly planted on the ground and will offer “practical green skills” so that graduates can impose their will on climate fluctuation.

Kidding aside, the practical application of such a degree is to secure a career as a bureaucrat. Sussex grads can be thankful they don’t have DOGE over there.

Even without spending years of time and tens of thousands of pounds, Sussex is willing to provide a hint regarding what “climate justice” means:

Climate justice, the focus of this course, addresses social equity, historical responsibility, and economic shifts in climate change. Emerging from civil society movements in the 2000s, it now shapes debates in the UK Parliament and UN. It is crucial for policymakers, NGOs, activists, and businesses.

Science is not mentioned because this is a BA, not a BS, despite being comprised entirely of BS. Climate justice has nothing to do with science; it is a means of imposing left-wing globalism.

California Dems Move to Criminalize Self-Defense

The leftists ruling California handcuff law enforcement while egging on criminals. Consequently, law-abiding citizens are sometimes forced to take defense of their homes and families into their own hands. No worries; Democrats have legislation for that:

AB 1333, if passed, would restrict the self-defense rights of crime victims by eliminating California’s “no duty to retreat” protection for individuals that are forced to defend themselves. This would make it easier to prosecute victims of crime who use self-defense if they did not first attempt to retreat before protecting themselves. AB 1333 forces victims to accede to the demands of violent criminals or potentially face legal charges themselves.

What do you expect? In deep blue California, representatives of law-abiding citizens don’t write the laws. Representatives of criminals do.

If a George Floyd type barges in your front door for a push-in robbery, you had better run out the back and let him take what he wants. Hopefully this won’t include your wife.
