I had an idea for a dystopian action/adventure movie along the lines of The Purge. Criminals take over the government and turn the rules upside down, so that sociopaths run free, and the law favors them against the police. But it turns out this is already being done. Not in Hollywood — in Virginia:

The Virginia Senate passed legislation Wednesday that would demote assaulting a police officer from a felony to a misdemeanor and would remove a mandatory jail sentence for the crime.

Encouraging criminals to physically attack police officers when the country has been engulfed in violent riots that specifically target the police for 3 straight months goes beyond irresponsible. It is societal vandalism. Morally speaking, not even the criminals and maniacs that have been seizing on lame pretexts to loot and destroy are any no lower than Virginia’s liberal rulers.

The summary of the bill, via WSLS 10:

Eliminates the mandatory minimum term of confinement for an assault and battery committed against a judge; magistrate; law-enforcement officer; correctional officer; person directly involved in the care, treatment, or supervision of inmates; firefighter; or volunteer firefighter or any emergency medical services personnel and provides that such crime can no longer be committed as a simple assault and must result in a bodily injury.

It’s nice to know they aren’t singling out police officers. Anyone who has to deal with criminals as part of their job has been placed at greater physical risk on behalf of the criminals the liberal establishment worships.

In related news, a state senate bill to ban police-free zones in Virginia was voted down in committee. The next CHAZ/CHOP anarchy zone may be in Old Dominion.

America was born of Virginians, prominently including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. Progressives have nothing but contempt for the great country they entrusted to future generations.

No wonder some teachers fret that virtual classrooms will expose their propagandizing to parents. The moonbattery injected into vulnerable young minds is over the top:

Wylie ISD, a school district north of Dallas, is under fire after some students were given an assignment including a political cartoon that compared police officers to slave owners and KKK members.

Educrats say the cartoon was unauthorized. Whether it is inconsistent with the political environment of the school or of public schools in general is another question.

You do not optimize children’s future by encouraging them to view white people and the police as demons.

Austin has been one of the fastest growing cities in the country recently. This may be reversed. Swept up in antipolice mania, the City Council has voted unanimously to cut the budget of the police department by $150 million. This sets Austin on the same anarchic track that has been rushing New York, Minneapolis, Seattle, and Portland to ruin.

Via the Texas Tribune:

The proposal to cut police funding by about one-third of its total $434 million budget calls for immediately cutting around $21.5 million from the department. This would include reallocating these funds to areas like violence prevention, food access, and abortion access programs.

Police departments are getting defunded at the expense of public safety because Black Lives Matter. How ironic that some of the money would be diverted to abortion, which takes a disproportionate number of black lives.

About $50 million would be allocated to the “Reimagine Safety Fund,” which…

…would divert money toward “alternative forms of public safety and community support through the yearlong reimagining process.”

It’s an increasingly dangerous world out there. Navel-gazing will not make it safer.

Looks like no one has spiked the water supply with LSD after all. The people of Seattle have spoken, even if their rulers are not listening.

On Sunday,

City residents turned out in droves for a “Back the Blue” rally outside city hall ahead of a major vote on Monday that would take funding away from the city’s police department.

Videos and photographs posted to social media showed what appeared to be thousands of people outside Seattle City Hall, adorned in blue shirts and holding signs to show support for law enforcement.

Antifa showed up in hopes of intimidating, but apparently did not have the numbers to break up the demonstration.

The City Council had already made cuts to the police department, during a period of incessant rioting that calls for more police, not less. On Monday, they doubled down on the moonbattery:

The Seattle City Council approved a complex budget package to cut spending for the Seattle Police Department. The vote was 7-1, with Councilmember Kshama Sawant as the only dissenting vote.

Kshama Sawant, who keeps her dials turned even further to the left than the rest of them, dissented because the cuts were not sufficiently extreme. The beleaguered SPD will only be reduced by 100 officers.

But the package was more than extreme enough for Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best, who promptly announced her resignation. Best is not a fan of mob rule.

She did her best. Unfortunately, it is not possible to police a city without support from the municipal government. Now she has more time to defend her home from moonbat commandos, and won’t have to rely on her neighbors.

Antipolice activists had demanded a 50% cut to police funding. Cutting funding at all in the face of arrogant demands by rioters sends a dangerous signal. Black Lives Matter is likely to draw the lesson that they will need to riot even more violently for their full demands to be met.
