She managed to get in the house, brandishing her deed to it. Her belongings were gone. Strange men were living there. They called the police on her.

In New York, squatters have rights after 30 days.

Fortunately, the trespassers could not prove they had been there for 30 days, so they were escorted off the property and Andaloro changed the locks. But then:

Less than 10 minutes after police left and the locks were changed, the man who claimed to be the one actually leasing the house showed up with another man police already escorted off the property. They pushed through the front door. …

Police showed up a second time and told Andaloro “he can’t be kicked out, you have to go to court.” …

Because Andaloro changed the locks, they arrested her for unlawful eviction.

Trespasser Brian Rodriguez demanded she pay him money to leave, adding extortion to the crimes for which he will not be punished.

Andaloro now has to attempt to evict the intruders through housing court.

It takes an average of 20 months for an eviction case to have a resolution in New York City, according to the Rent Stabilization Association.

Life under liberals is intolerable, as New York has been making obvious.

Compelling or encouraging the suppression of speech that the government finds threatening is the definition of censorship. The purpose of the First Amendment is to protect us from it.

“My biggest concern is that your view has the First Amendment hamstringing the government in significant ways,” Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson said. “Some might say that the government actually has a duty to take steps to protect the citizens of this country, and you seem to be suggesting that that duty can not manifest itself in encouraging or even pressuring platforms to take down harmful information.”

Who decides when information is “harmful”? Authoritarian apparatchiks like Ketanji Brown Jackson. Harmful to whom? Them, not us.

Brent Taylor filed a bill in January that would effectively override the Memphis ordinance by barring “a local governmental entity or official from adopting or enacting a resolution, ordinance, or policy that prohibits or limits the ability of a law enforcement agency to conduct traffic stops based on observation of or reasonable suspicion that the operator or a passenger in a vehicle has violated a local ordinance of state or federal law.”

Taylor’s bill passed along party lines. Democrats reacted with hebephrenic rage.

The neighborhoods of Corona, Jackson Heights and Elmhurst — a once-vibrant community in northwestern Queens — has now essentially deteriorated into a large flea market with trash overflowing on street corners, leading to unsavory and unhygienic conditions…

“Basically, you just see clothes thrown across the floor … the items are stolen from donation bins or stolen from stores, and they just set up shop outside brick-and-mortar businesses. They take away trade from these businesses and don’t pay taxes.”

Why should they pay taxes? The point of taxes is to take money from us and give it to them. That’s why our tax money is not spent defending the border or enforcing laws against shoplifting, unlicensed street vending, and prostitution.

Lady in Blue is a sculpture of a black woman with abstract proportions, including strangely long arms and very pronounced buttocks and legs. Artist Tschabalala Self said the piece pays “homage to a young, metropolitan woman of color” in a statement obtained by the Art Newspaper.

Self, an American from New York City, has enjoyed “meteoric success with her distinctive works depicting black and predominantly female figures,” the publication reported in 2020.

Self’s conspicuous lack of talent is irrelevant. She is racially and thematically correct.
