Statue of Bum Erected in Santa Monica

A society erects statues of those who embody the values it venerates. That’s why statues of great historical figures who represent the best of our culture when it was healthy are under attack (e.g., Thomas Jefferson, George Washington) now that it is sick with moonbattery. New statues will appear that reflect what we believe in currently: irresponsibility, self-imposed victimhood, self-indulgence, uselessness, dysfunction, psychosis. This process has already begun:

A seven-foot-tall sculpture of a homeless man was unveiled Monday in the courtyard of the former Santa Monica bank building once graced by the iconic mural “Pleasures Along the Beach.”

The mural was no doubt considered too wholesome to be appropriate. The bum statue by “Los Angeles artist and activist Ed Massey,” sardonically entitled “In the Image,” is more in tune with the times.

The new sculpture — which will be on display for six weeks — depicts a bearded homeless man in baggy clothes staring at a red plastic cup in his hand, a blanket draped across a shoulder.

This is not Massey’s first adventure in public tastelessness:

The artist caused a stir in Santa Monica 25 years ago when he installed a sculpture in an office building window depicting two figures of men hanging from their genitals above a raped woman.

We had already hit bottom a quarter century ago. Since then, we have been digging.

Life on the Left Coast Under Homeless Occupation

Liberal ideology demands that those who take responsibility for their lives be sacrificed to those who do not. The ultimate example of the latter group are those who find themselves without homes due to their own choices, addictions, and/or mental illness. On the Left Coast, such people constitute an occupational army. Such an army is prone to violence. An example from Seattle:

“I was at an intersection and saw a homeless guy, sort of to my left, across the street… yelling and acting up,” Taylor tells the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH. For privacy, he asked that I not use his last name. “I didn’t really pay any attention to it as he was yelling… at the world… I didn’t think anything of it. Just sort of regular sort of homeless activity, I guess.”

But then suddenly there was a “huge explosion of glass” from the driver’s side window.

He felt a “huge thud” in his shoulder and thought he had been shot. Wisely, he took off to avoid further attack and assessed the damage a few blocks away.

He soon realized what had happened: the homeless man threw a substantial rock through his window.

From here, the story becomes even more emblematic of life under the homeless occupation:

Taylor called 9-1-1 to explain what happened, though the homeless man was not arrested. …

Someone had already called the police to report the man and cops had arrived. As a result, the operator didn’t take Taylor’s information. …

Taylor holds no grudges with the operator and certainly not the police. But he’s sad that this will likely be a case of a homeless criminal neither getting the help he clearly needs nor the punishment he clearly deserves.

The police would have arrested the derelict if the operator had passed along the information that he was not merely causing a disturbance, but had tried to kill someone by throwing a large rock through his window. However, the maniac would have been back on the street within weeks if not hours anyway. If you doubt it, consider the homeless guy in Los Angeles who dumped a bucket of diarrhea on a random woman’s head and was loose again in 2 months, or the psycho bum in Portland who sucker-punched a woman so hard it might have killed her who was back on the street in no time.

Meanwhile, do-gooders wring their hands and pule with sympathy for this army of deranged and violent zombies. They confirm to themselves what good persons they are by voting for liberals who will grow the zombie hordes by spending ever more of other people’s money on homeless services to subsidize the lifestyle.

That’s why the Left Coast is a great place for the homeless, but not so great for anyone else.

Denver Fines Business Owner Over Bum Crap

Under liberal rule, lowlifes crap all over the place and decent people are forced to clean up the mess — literally, as Denver demonstrates.

Being run by the sort of people who are in charge of the Left Coast, Denver is turning into a mile-high San Francisco, its sidewalks carpeted with needles and human waste. The city has been fining Jawaid Bazyar, CEO of an internet service provider, for not cleaning up the mess bums make in front of his business.

Via Daily Wire:

“The wall is a bathroom stall. They lean up against it and let it rip,” Bazyar told FOX31 KDVR. “In downtown Denver, that’s nonstop now, just piles of poop.”

“There’s food, trash, drug deals,” Bazyar told CBS Denver. “In the alley, we get the defecation, drug needles.”

The bums often get violent. They are attracted to liberal cities by do-gooder policies that subsidize their lifestyle, and by the anarchotyrannical mentality of liberal rulers, who are ready to incarcerate restaurant owners for providing drinking straws but who refuse to maintain basic order on the streets.

Here’s why Bazyar won’t clean up the mess the city made:

“Because it’s a bio-hazard. It could be infectious. I didn’t hire these people to clean poop off the ground. I can’t, as an employer, just say, ‘Go and clean up the feces.’”

Sounds reasonable. As Bazyar further notes,

“If the city’s not going to enforce laws against trespassing, or camping, or public defecation and just make me bare the cost of these problems that’s just not right.”

The moonbat virtue signaling by Denver’s rulers has included “lessening penalties for certain crimes, including public urination and defecation, as a way of trying to protect illegal aliens from being deported.”

Mayor Michael Hancock and the commie-infested City Council should be dragged out of their offices by their ears and handed shovels and mops. Who knows? Maybe doing something useful for a change would enhance their self-esteem even more than liberal posturing.

LA Derelict Attacks With Diarrhea

Just how filthy a place is moonbattery-rotted Los Angeles? Heidi Van Tassel could tell you. She was getting into her car near the Walk of Fame when a homeless man ran toward her across Hollywood Boulevard. KNBC tells the rest:

Van Tassel was parked in Hollywood after having a pleasant evening out with friends at an authentic Thai restaurant. Suddenly a man randomly pulled her out of the car, dragged her out to the middle of the street, and dumped a bucket of feces on her head, Van Tassel said and public records confirm.

“It was diarrhea. Hot liquid. I was soaked, and it was coming off my eyelashes and into my eyes,” Van Tassel said. “Paramedics who came to treat me said there was so much of it on me, that it looked like the man was saving it up for a month.”

At least justice was done…

The man who attacked her, identified in court records as Jere Blessings, was charged with battery and taken to jail. Blessings was described as a transient with “schizophrenia and psychotic disorders,” records show.

…or maybe not:

Blessings got help, but only for two months. He was sent by a judge to a residential facility for people with mental health issues, and released in August.

Blessings may be psychotic, but he is probably not so out of touch with reality as to think he would receive any significant punishment. Sociopaths have good reason to grow ever bolder as California incrementally decriminalizes criminal behavior.

Another reason homeless lunatics are making Left Coast cities unlivable is that the liberals in charge are spending massive amounts of other people’s money to “solve” the problem by subsidizing it.

Seattle Pays $435 per Manhour to Clean Up After Bums

As noted yesterday, big money goes into the homelessness industry on the Left Coast. There are a lot of losers, namely taxpayers. But at least there are a few winners. KIRO’s Dori Monson reports on a contract he received from a tipster for cleaning up derelict encampments in Seattle:

This private company that the city of Seattle has contracted with gets $435 per technician, per labor hour. The overtime hourly rate per worker is $652.50. I’m not talking about an eight-member crew getting that much to split. I’m talking about every single homeless camp cleanup worker.

It’s nasty work, cleaning up drug needles and human waste, but not skilled work. Others were willing to do it for the much lower but still extravagant rate of $80 per manhour. But Seattle gave the job to the $435 per manhour bid. Sounds like somebody has friends in high places.

Again we see that the more money Big Government spends, no matter what it is ostensibly spent on, the more opportunities there are for graft and waste. If you want an honest and efficient government, you want the smallest government possible.

San Francisco Subsidizes Homelessness, Gets More of It

Subsidize something and you get more of it. This is particularly true of homelessness, as San Francisco demonstrates.

Proposition C passed with 61% of the vote, imposing a payroll tax that would raise $300 million per year to bestow upon homelessness. This money has been held up in the courts, but that has not stopped San Francisco from spending in a big way, as noted at Manhattan Contrarian:

The basic budget for homeless services has gone from about $155 million annually in the 2011-12 fiscal year, to $271 million annually in San Francisco’s most recent 2018-19 spending plan. And then there’s the newly uncovered honeypot of money in something called the Educational Revenue Augmentation Fund. What’s that? According to a piece in May from the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, “ERAF is a state program that requires counties to set aside a portion of local property taxes to a fund to be used for their school district. When the fund reaches its state-imposed cap, the remaining funds are then returned to the local government to be used for other purposes at the local government’s discretion.” According to that piece, San Francisco Mayor London Breed intends to spend much of this year’s ERAF “windfall” on “housing and homelessness initiatives,” including “$15 million for a new homeless navigation center, $40 million for anti-eviction measures, $14 million to buy land for affordable housing, $9 million to improve public housing and $42.5 million to complete construction of a homeless housing site.” That would look to be another $120 million or so in a year.

This cascade of cash has had the effect that any reasonable person would expect on homelessness.

According to a piece in the City Journal by Erica Sandberg on October 10, the official count of homeless in San Francisco is now 9,780. That represents an increase of at least 30% just since 2017.

When the Prop C money is freed up, San Franciscans will be spending about $600 per capita per year to subsidize homelessness. Expect the hordes of derelicts to skyrocket.

Spending money to help the homeless into homes they cannot afford (and are unlikely to maintain) will cause already stratospheric housing costs to skyrocket too. This happens when demand goes up while supply is held down by local regulators who make it economically unreasonable to build. The government is not likely to construct enough housing for the homeless to keep prices from rising as a result of “anti-eviction measures.” Consider the effect federal assistance has had on college tuition rates.

The blanket of human waste and taxpayer-financed heroin needles that covers the sidewalks will continue to thicken. The once beautiful city will tailspin ever faster into dystopia.

The same lunacy is unfolding down the Left Coast in Los Angeles.

It would be nice to think other parts of the country are at least learning from California’s example.

Los Angeles Has Fallen

Since we got Democrats out of the White House, the economy has been booming. Unemployment is at a historic low. Yet the homeless situation in California continues to spiral out of control. Slightly Offens*ve ventures into the moonbat dystopia of Los Angeles to show us how intolerable the situation has become:

This is the price of single-party liberal rule. The Democrat Party is an alliance of authoritarian elitists and the dysfunctional poor against the middle class. Where Democrats have cleared the battlefield of opposition — which they have been able to do in California thanks to mass immigration — the middle class shrivels and dies. The liberal elite ruling class lives extravagantly; the rest live with the rats.

Meanwhile, we have to listen to zillionaire Democrats shriek sanctimoniously about “income inequality” as they use Marxist rhetoric to inflict the same fate on the rest of the country.

Los Angeles Is a Sh**hole

There is no point importing a different population from sh**hole countries when we have sh**holes right here in the USA. Portland and San Francisco are two examples. Los Angeles is another. Paul Joseph Watson lifts the lid:

Any city will become a sh**hole that remains under moonbat rule for long.

Stealing Ships in Moonbattery-Addled Seattle

The Left Coast is degenerating into anarchy because criminal lunatics are no longer incarcerated. Derelicts are allowed to take over businesses and whole neighborhoods in California. Vicious assaults that could have been fatal result in immediate release from police custody in Portland. As the situation spirals out of control, homeless petty criminals have escalated to stealing ships in moonbattery-addled Seattle.

Via KIRO Radio:

Doug Dixon, general manager of Pacific Fishermen Shipyard and PFI Marine Electric just off Shilshole Avenue, said the crime was carefully-planned.

He said that a woman who appears to be homeless and spends time around the shipyard took a hardhat from a construction site next door and used it to gain access to the shipyard.…

With the hardhat disguise, she climbed aboard Pacific Fishermen’s $12 million North Sea — a 123-foot, 400-ton fishing vessel that Dixon described as “a big sister” to the Northwestern on the Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch.”

She managed to start up the ship’s 16-cylinder engine. Maybe she planned to go out on a whimsical fishing expedition, like in the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

There were crew on board, so the fun didn’t last long. However, she can always come back and try again.

Police arrested the attempted boat thief on two felonies, but she was released 24 hours later. Another arrest followed shortly after, but she was once again released.

Next time damages might be more significant:

“She’s got the wherewithal to steal a crab boat — she could have sneaked in at night and done it, because we’re not that secure here,” [Dixon] said. “I’m concerned she’d use it to ram the Ballard Locks and drain Lake Washington.”

Mass shootings are one price we pay for letting lunatics run around loose. Another is the need for tight security everywhere.
