Given that Democrats are the Party of Big Money, it comes as no surprise that they are attacking our right to bear arms by attempting to price us out of it:

More than two dozen House Democrats put forward legislation Friday that would slap “assault weapons” and high-capacity magazines with a 1,000% excise tax, a change that would raise the price of a $500 weapon to $5,000 in a bid to reduce access to guns across the country.

The power to tax is the power to destroy. It can even be used to destroy the Constitution.

If the bill goes through, police-defunding congresscritter Cori Bush (D-BLM) will have to spend even more than the $490,000 she blew on private security last year. No worries; or rulers have plenty of money — ours.

Fortunately, it won’t become law until Democrats achieve the leverage.

In the meantime:

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) is urging the Biden Administration to “issue” new gun controls under the auspices of the gun control package passed by Congress and signed by Biden during the summer of 2022.

Blumenthal wants to be known for something other than stolen valor.

The 2022 gun control package Blumenthal has in mind, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, was the result of Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) crossing the aisle to work with Democrats to secure gun control.

Cornyn played a central role in rewarding race riots by making George Floyd Day (a.k.a “Juneteenth”) a federal holiday. Working across the aisle with Democrats comes naturally to him.

Blumenthal tweeted: “I’m hoping all new regulations will be issued & made effective soon by the Biden Administration under the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.”

The New York Times reported that the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act contained a provision that allows an expansion of background checks via a reclassification of what constitutes a firearms dealer. This provision would shift the definition of firearms dealer so as to include not only those who make their livelihood selling guns but “anyone who earns a profit from selling firearms” as well.

Bureaurats redefining the term “firearms dealer” is a bigger deal than it might seem. Here’s why:

Expanded background checks lead to a gun registry, as they are not enforceable without such a registry. Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) spoke with Breitbart News about the anticipated executive action and noted that, ironically, the Firearm Owners’ Protection Act (1986) prohibits the creation of gun registry.

Once this little wrinkle has been ironed out, Democrats can establish the registry. After that, they only need to wait for a sufficiently horrific school shooting or social unrest resulting from power outages before door-to-door confiscation can begin.

After that, the last off ramp before Soviet-style despotism is civil war.

Democrat rule requires euphemisms for euphemisms. Mayor Brandon struck “teen takeover” from the Newspeak Dictionary by declaring that mob actions must now be referred to as “large gatherings”:

Johnson reportedly snapped at a reporter for calling young rioters a “mob,” insisting they were just “large gatherings” — and that labeling the riots “mob actions” was inappropriate.

“That’s not appropriate,” the newly minted mayor said in response to a reporter’s question about trends like “mob actions” the city has endured.

“We’re not talking about mob actions. I didn’t say that,” Johnson barked back. “These large gatherings … it’s important that we speak of these dynamics in an appropriate way.”

Note that if Caucasians are involved, a riot is not a “large gathering.” It is an “insurrection” — unless the Caucasians are Antifa thugs, in which case the riot is a “protest for social justice.”

Total crime in the Windy City was up 36% year-to-date as of July 30 – with motor vehicle theft up by a whopping 116%, statistics show. Every area of crime other than shootings and murders have seen an increase so far this year compared with last.

Chicagoans must want this, or they would not have replaced Lori Lightfoot with someone even worse.

“Every time a Republican won the presidency this century, Democrats tried to stop the certification. Yet none of them faced criminal charges over what is obviously First Amendment protected activity.”

As least children whose lives are irrevocably ruined on behalf of the LGBT agenda made it home from the hospital. That will be the case for fewer kids in the state next door:

Under the new version of Minnesota’s abortion reporting law, practitioners of abortion will no longer report when abortions result in live births and what measures are taken to care for such infants. The change comes as the legislature has also repealed a guarantee that born-alive infants receive appropriate lifesaving care.

That means babies who survive attempted abortion will be subjected to infanticide, to be inflicted by denying care and leaving the baby to die. The public will have no way of knowing how often this occurs.

The emphasis on harming children confirms that leftism is not merely misguided, but evil.

Widdowson had been a tenured professor at Mount Royal University (MRU) in the Department of Economics, Justice, and policy studies until she was fired in late 2021.

She lost her job over thought infractions.

She has spent much of her academic career focused on public policy in relation to indigenous people, including the causes of massive socioeconomic disparities between indigenous and other Canadians. She said her research has led her to what some deem ‘politically incorrect’ conclusions which do not conform with ‘woke’ ideas.

She had been approved to speak, but then leftist thugs stamped their feet. As usual, sympathetic educrats caved.

Despite the cancellation, Widdowson chose to attend the UofL on Feb. 1 and speak in the UofL Atrium.

However, a moonbat mob descended. She was “drowned out by shouting, drumming, and chanting” lest anyone be exposed to views that do not comply with leftist orthodoxy.

A village in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia has revolted and successfully pushed back plans by local authorities to house 450 asylum seekers in a former monastery building. According to the publication Junge Freiheit, there were scenes of jubilation at a town hall meeting on Monday, July 31st, in Oeventrop, when the owner of the building, Christoph Kraas, announced that, without the support of the community, he would not lease the monastery to the local government for accommodating the migrants.

Hats off to Herr Kraas. He passed up a fortune in taxpayer money that the government would have paid in rent for the colony.

Local government representatives tried to persuade the locals of the necessity of establishing a refugee centre, but got booed by the angry crowd. The villagers then voiced their fears that crimes, such as sexual assaults, would be committed by the migrants, pointing out that neighbouring towns had suffered similar fates.

Marrazzo pushed for mask-wearing in schools during the pandemic despite warnings that face coverings would hamper their education.

The masks also hampered their health, as has been known for some time. Like many suffocating Covid measures, masks on children served no constructive purpose.

At least we learned from the miserable experience of Covid. We now know better than to take government scientists seriously. Unfortunately, our rulers learned something too: that there is virtually no limit to what we will put up with.
